Snowy Valleys Cycle Challenge

24 Mar 2019

The inaugural Snowy Valleys Cycle Challenge will be held on Sunday 24th March 2019. The Rotary Club of Tumut Incorporated (along with the Rotary Clubs of Batlow and Tumbarumba) invites you to experience the stunning scenery, heritage towns and unique history of the region.

The Snowy Valleys Cycle Challenge is a personal challenge event – not a race. The event is on public roads.  All riders must comply with NSW road rules, directions by police and officials at all times.

There are three rides of varying distances, with something to test every rider from the eager novice to the seasoned climber. The western slopes of the Snowy Mountains are known for their varying terrain, climbs, hills, and sweeping descents. Note that it does start to get hot at this time of year, most venues nearby have air conditioning services. If your air conditioning decides to break at the worst time check out Oneflare.

Festival of Small Halls - Autumn Tour

14 Apr 2019

Festival of Small Halls is coming to Lacmalac!

Lacmalac Soldiers Memorial Hall was built in 1927 in memory of the soldiers lost in the first World War.

Festival of Small Halls rolls into Lacmalac on Sunday, 14 April 2019 with award-winning trio The Once and Australia’s John Flanagan.

The Festival of Small Halls is a series of tours produced by Woodfordia Inc in partnership with major festivals and local communities across regional Australia. It takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists performing at two large festivals, and sends them on the road to tiny halls all over Australia. It’s an opportunity for music-lovers from welcoming communities to invite artists from home and abroad into their towns, and a way of exploring this vast country in the spirit of hospitality and great fun.

The artist line-up for Small Halls will always be at least one Australian artist and one International touring artist, who play music of exceptional quality and heart. They’ve been chosen for the tour not only because of their beautiful songs or tunes, but because they connect with the people they play for, whether through storytelling, the ability to tell a good joke (or a truly terrible one), their wonderful warmth and their real interest in visiting places a little off the beaten track.

From the farmlands to the flood lands, the rainforests to the outback, Festival of Small Halls audiences can expect a beautiful night of original music, as well as a chance to catch up with their families and friends during a supper break over cake and tea. It’s an all-ages event and all are welcome.

Tickets available via IWannaTicket - see the Facebook page for more information.

Festival of the Falling Leaf

27 Apr 2019

Autumn in Tumut offers one of the most spectacular display of seasonal colours to be found anywhere in New South Wales.

Visitors can experience the ever-popular parade along Tumut's main street. Later in the evening, bring a chair to claim one of the vantage points to enjoy the annual fireworks display.

Some history:

In 1954 the local headmaster, Alf Wood, introduced the idea of a festival to celebrate the arrival of autumn and the falling leaves which characterised the town’s many parks and gardens. Alf enlisted the support of the Rotary Club of Tumut and The Tumut Festival of the Falling Leaf was born.

The initial aim of the festival was to foster an appreciation of nature’s colours to both the local community and visitors through a series of events over a period of ten days.

Over the years the Festival of the Falling Leaf, like the season it represents, has seen many changes, but, has continued to flourish and grow into a fabulous annual event attracting thousand of visitors far and wide.

Batlow CiderFest

18 May 2019

Batlow CiderFest is a full-on communal street party celebrating the end of the apple harvest and the best boutique ciders grown and brewed locally.

Growers, producers, locals and their visitors enjoy some hard-earned down time after the long months of cultivating, growing, picking and packing, before winter sets in on the Snowy Mountains.

It's a street party not to be missed. Two stages host local talent and market stalls offer boutique ciders, gourmet food, locally grown produce, and tempting homemade treats.

Set in Batlow's main street the atmosphere sizzles with buskers and street theatre including a troupe of home-grown Apple Tarts who lead the dance.

Against a backdrop of trees in glorious autumn colours, the aroma of food from around the globe and of course, the sound of fresh cider being poured in clear mountain air stirs the senses.

On the professional side, the Festival hosts a cider industry and Farm Gate Enterprise conference the day prior to the Festival. It attracts delegates from across Australia wanting to increase their knowledge and share their experience in this exciting emerging industry.
