Consider carrying a Personal Locator Beacon (available from Tumut Region Visitor Information Centre)
Think about weather, equipment and safety.
Camp and wash well away from water - 50 metres is best.
Carry it in, carry it out - don't bury rubbish.
Keep fires in fireplaces and never leave a fire unattended.
Ensure the fire is completely out.
Check before leaving if there is a Total Fire Ban in place - remember no fire may be lit in the open during days of Total Fire Ban. This includes gas cookers.

Camping in the Tumut Region
If camping is your style then the Tumut Region offers an abundance of opportunities. You can find the perfect spot for your swag, tent, caravan or motorhome.
Camp by the Tumut River in the Riverglade or Blowering Holiday Park to enjoy the local attractions of Tumut. Overlook Jounama Dam at the Talbingo Tourist Park, camp on the banks of Reedy Flat Creek at the Batlow Caravan Park or pitch your tent at Golden Gully Caravan Park at Adelong.
The Thomas Boyd Trackhead or Rock Flat Campground on the Goobragandra River provides for a range of activities; walk on the Hume and Hovell Track, paddle your canoe down the river or throw a line in the river.
If you are looking for something a bit more basic then bush camping is available in the Northern End of Kosciuszko National Park. No camping fees apply to these areas, but they have basic facilities such as pit toilets and fireplaces.
